KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs work requiring the knowledge and application of basic elements of
the trade. Work assignments range from simple to moderately complex.
Assists in installing, maintaining, repairing and servicing aerial and/or underground
telephone/DTV cables including locating, identifying and inspecting underground
fiber/copper cables and reporting damaged cables to supervisor. Helps to install
central office feeder and distribution cables.
Carries equipment and materials to work site; assists in digging holes, clearing
bushes trimming trees, erecting poles and stringing aerial cables; assists in digging
underground trenches and laying cable conduit pipes and cables.
Performs various aerial cable duties such as climbing telephone poles to remove
and transfer cables, etc.; assists in troubleshooting duties relating to dial tone,
switch, Universal Enclosure, pedestal, etc. May operate a vehicle to transport materials
to the job site.
Employee functions under the immediate supervision of a skilled telephone/DTV line
worker who explains work assignments and review completed work for accuracy and
propriety. Receives onthe- job training in the principles, practices, concepts,
methods, techniques, work procedures, etc.., fundamental to the agency and trade.
Receives detailed instructions when given initial assignments but as the employee’s
knowledge, skills and abilities increase in the field of work, supervision is relaxed
with respect to the performance of familiar/routine work assignments; and increasingly
difficult assignments are made for training/developmental purposes.
