On August 23, 1982 the
Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) was established
under RPPL 1-40 to modernize Palau’s telecommunications and expand services nationwide.
In 1982 there were about 200 telephone customers in Koror. Today, PNCC offers
a wide range of telecommunication services nationwide, with over 27,000 subscriptions
for Internet, telephone, PalauCel, and digital TV.
PNCC’s 30th anniversary celebration
started earlier this year with a variety of activities, including a photo contest
held from May 18 to July 6. PNCC is pleased to announce the photo contest
winners as follows: Talitha Balie Alexander (Digital TV category); Dr. Einstein
Yu (Internet and Telephone categories); and Honora Alonz (Cellphone category).
To thank the public for the many
years of support, PNCC has planned more special events during August, including
raffle prize drawings, a service sign-up promotion, and co-sponsorship of the Palauan
Night Market on August 24 with the Palau Visitors Authority (PVA). From
now through August 31, 2012, PNCC is offering 30% off new installation for Digital TV
Basic subscriptions, Internet DSL, and single-line telephone, plus free connection
for PalauNet dial-up accounts, which can be used for high-speed access at more than
80 WiFi Hotspots. PNCC is also offering free reconnection for Internet DSL,
PalauNet, DTV Basic, and single-line telephone accounts. Plus, PalauCel prepaid
customers get a 30-cent bonus (for local text only) every time you load a $10 Airtime
card during August.
On Thursday, August 23, PNCC offices will
be closed in observance of the PNCC Anniversary date. On August 20, 21, 22, and
24, PNCC invites customers to visit PNCC offices in Koror and Airai and enter the
30th Anniversary Raffle Drawings. A customer who pays a bill, signs up for
a service, or buys a PNCC product such as a phone card, may enter to win an Instant
Raffle Prize, while supplies last, and the Grand Prize of an iPad.
At the Palauan Night Market on Friday, August 24, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, PNCC will offer free demonstrations of high-speed
Internet access through a WiFi Hotspot and HomeNet service, and employees will be
available to answer customer questions about services. At 7:00 PM, PNCC will
host a program at the Bethlehem stage featuring Palauan dancers and the drawing
for the winner of the iPad Grand Prize (need not be present to win), plus other
call 488-9000 for more information.
